India Calls for De-escalation and Release of Hostages in Israel-Hamas Conflict New Delhi: As the Israel-Hamas conflict continues, India has urged both sides to eschew violence, de-escalate the situation, and create conditions for an early resumption of direct peace negotiations towards a two-state solution to the Palestine issue. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson, Arindam Bagchi, stated that India has made its position clear on multiple occasions, including during the UN General Assembly debate on October 27. India strongly condemned the recent attack by Hamas on Israel and called for immediate and unconditional release of hostages.

Bagchi also expressed deep concern about the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the increasing civilian toll. In response, India has sent 38 tonnes of humanitarian relief material to Gaza and emphasized the need for strict observance of international humanitarian law. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had phone conversations with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President of Palestinian Authority Mahmoud Abbas, expressing the need for de-escalation and peace negotiations. However, Bagchi stated that he was not aware of any specific requests from Israel's construction industry to recruit Indian workers to replace Palestinian workers.

Bagchi mentioned that India has been working towards providing its citizens with access to the global workplace and has been in discussions to establish mobility agreements with several countries. He also highlighted the presence of Indian workers in Israel, particularly in the caregiver sector, and mentioned ongoing discussions for a bilateral framework in the construction and caregiver sectors. In regards to humanitarian aid, India has sent essential medicines, protective and surgical items, tents, sleeping bags, and basic sanitary utilities to Gaza.

The relief materials include fluids and painkillers for immediate relief and measures to address emergency medical conditions. COGAT Spokeswoman ShSasson emphasized that 665 trucks containing food, medicine, tents, and water have entered Gaza through Rafah. India's stance on the Israel-Hamas conflict reflects its commitment to peace, de-escalation, and humanitarian support. The country continues to work towards protecting the rights of its citizens overseas and promoting a two-state solution for resolving the Israel-Palestine issue.
