Imran Khan, the former Pakistan prime minister, is serving a three-year sentence in Attock Jail after being convicted in the Toshakhana corruption case. Recently, Khan raised concerns about the poor living conditions and lack of privacy in the jail. As a result, a new washroom with a five-feet high wall and a door has been constructed in his cell. The Punjab Prisons Department has ensured that all facilities available under the Pakistan Prisons Rules, 1978 have been made available to Khan.

Additional District and Sessions Judge, Shafquat Ullah Khan, visited Khan's cell and confirmed the genuineness of his complaints regarding the living conditions and lack of privacy. Addressing the concern about privacy in the bathroom, the spokesperson for the Punjab Prisons Department stated that a new washroom with a western commode and wash basin has been installed in Khan's cell. The walls of the washroom have been kept five feet high and a door has been added. The spokesperson further clarified that CCTV cameras have been installed outside Khan's room for his and jail security.

More than 4,000 CCTV cameras have been installed in not only the Attock jail but also in other jails of Punjab for security purposes. In terms of amenities, Khan has been provided with bath soap, perfume, air freshener, towels, tissue papers, a bed, pillows, mattresses, tables, chairs, air conditioners, and exhaust fans. Additionally, five doctors have been appointed for his medical needs, with one available at all times.

Special food is given to Khan only after it has been checked by doctors. Fruits, honey, dates, a prayer mat, Quran, and books have also been provided to him. There were also concerns raised about Khan's wife and lawyers having limited access to him. However, the spokesperson mentioned that Khan's family meets him on Tuesdays and his lawyers visit him on Thursdays. Khan's wife, Bushra Bibi, expressed her fear of her husband being poisoned during his incarceration and requested his transfer to Rawalpindi's Adiala Jail.

The PTI Core Committee meeting highlighted the observations of Additional District and Sessions Judge Shafqut Ullah Khan, who verified the mistreatment Khan has been subjected to in Attock Jail. Caretaker Interior Minister Sarfaraz Bugti confirmed that Khan is allowed to meet visitors and provided facilities according to the prison class he applied for. Bugti also stated that he would inquire about other issues raised in the inspection report, such as the CCTV camera.

Imran Khan is scheduled to appear before the Islamabad High Court for the hearing of his plea against his conviction and sentence in the Toshakhana corruption case, a verdict that could greatly impact his political future and his party ahead of the general elections.
