Horrific Road Accident Claims 48 Lives in Western Kenya

At least 48 people were killed in a horrific road accident in western Kenya on Friday, with many more seriously injured. The tragedy occurred at a busy junction known as Londiani, located between the towns of Kericho and Nakuru.

The accident occurred when a truck travelling towards Kericho lost control and ploughed into other vehicles, motorcycles, pedestrians, vendors, and those conducting other business at the scene. Television images showed the mangled wreckage of several minibuses and the overturned truck, with rescue workers searching for those feared trapped under the wreckage.

Local police commander Geoffrey Mayek said that 48 people had been confirmed dead, with another 30 seriously injured and taken to various hospitals. He warned that the death toll could still rise. Kenyan President William Ruto expressed his condolences for those affected by the accident, as did other Kenyan leaders. Road safety is a major issue throughout the country, with the number of deaths on the roads increasing in recent years due to a lack of safety measures.
