French judges are questioning the over 300 Indians detained on a plane near Paris over suspicions of human trafficking as reported by the AP. The Airbus A340 has been held at Vatry airport since arriving from Dubai on Thursday after an anonymous tip-off that it may be carrying potential victims of human trafficking. The passengers, including 11 unaccompanied minors and some who have requested asylum, have been holed up in the airport as judges work to verify the conditions and purposes of their travel. The goal is to allow the passengers to leave the airport without naming a destination.

Some of the passengers are likely workers in the United Arab Emirates who may be traveling to Nicaragua as a jumping off spot for the United States or Canada. Meanwhile, the India embassy in Paris is working for a rapid resolution of the situation, with consular officials on site. A lawyer for the airline has stated that the plane will take many of the stranded passengers back to India, confirming the passport information was communicated by the airline 48 hours before the flight. The U.S. government has designated Nicaragua as one of the countries deemed as failing to meet minimum standards for eliminating human trafficking. Additionally, Indian citizens were arrested over 41,000 times entering the U.S. illegally from Mexico, according to the latest report.
