Nawaz Sharif, the former Prime Minister of Pakistan, is expected to become the country's next premier if the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) party returns to power in the upcoming general election in November.

This announcement was made by his brother and current Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif during a public meeting in Kasur. Shehbaz Sharif expressed confidence that Nawaz Sharif would change the country's destiny by focusing on agriculture, industry, and infrastructure.

Nawaz Sharif, who has served as Prime Minister three times before, has been living in self-imposed exile in the UK since November 2019. He was convicted in corruption cases in 2018 and served a seven-year imprisonment before being allowed to go to London on medical grounds.

Shehbaz Sharif emphasized that his brother would serve the people of Pakistan as he had done before. During Nawaz Sharif's previous tenure as Prime Minister from 2013 to 2017, Pakistan experienced significant progress and improved relations with countries like China, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey.

In contrast, Shehbaz Sharif criticized former Prime Minister Imran Khan for damaging Pakistan's relations with these countries. Shehbaz Sharif also announced that he would dissolve the Assemblies on August 9 and the people of Pakistan would elect their government through a vote in November 2023.

There is speculation that Nawaz Sharif's return to Pakistan is dependent on receiving relief in his convictions. Some ruling PML-N leaders believe that his return would signal the holding of upcoming polls in the country. However, no assurances have been given by the establishment, and the situation will become clearer once the caretaker set-up is installed.

PML-N's former federal minister Talal Chaudhry stated that Nawaz Sharif would not only lead the election campaign but also be the sole candidate for the position of Prime Minister. The Election Commission of Pakistan has yet to announce the date of the general election.

The recent sentencing of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan in the Toshakhana case has led to speculation that the military establishment will manipulate the election results in favor of the desired outcome. Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah and other PML-N leaders have also linked Nawaz Sharif's return to changes in the command of the apex court.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's announcement about holding the election as per the digital census conducted earlier this year suggests that Nawaz Sharif may have more time to settle his cases before returning to Pakistan. Shehbaz's premature dissolution of the Assemblies will pave the way for a caretaker government to oversee the election proceedings.

In conclusion, the political landscape in Pakistan is expected to see Nawaz Sharif returning as the country's next premier if his party comes to power in the upcoming general election. Shehbaz Sharif has expressed confidence in his brother's ability to bring about positive changes in Pakistan's agriculture, industry, and infrastructure. However, the exact timeline for Nawaz Sharif's return and the holding of the elections will become clearer once further developments take place.
