The joint investigation team has informed an anti-terrorism court in Lahore that former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan and several high-ranking members of his political party were directly involved in orchestrating the anti-government violence that took place on May 9.

The violence occurred following Khan's arrest by paramilitary Rangers in a corruption case. The joint investigation team, headed by DIG Operations Imran Kishwar, submitted chargesheets against PTI leaders and hundreds of workers to the court.

The Lahore police have declared Khan and over 900 party leaders and activists named in the May 9 cases guilty of serious offenses. The prosecution alleges that the violent protests led by the suspects were part of a planned conspiracy against the state.

Over 400 pieces of video evidence, including speeches by Imran Khan, have been presented to support the claim that the attacks on military installations and premises in cantonment areas were pre-planned. The violence resulted in the damage and torching of dozens of military and government buildings, as well as the destruction of over 100 police and security agency vehicles.

Following the May 9 violence, the police, backed by the military, launched a crackdown on the PTI party, arresting over 10,000 party workers, including women. Over 100 individuals have been handed over to the military for trial under the Army Act.

Imran Khan has denied the allegations of masterminding or inciting the attacks, stating that it was a well-planned conspiracy to oust his party from upcoming elections. He served as the country's prime minister until April last year and currently faces around 180 cases, most of which stem from incidents on May 9.

Khan, who has been detained since August 5 after his conviction in the Toshakhana case, is currently serving his sentence in the cipher case in Adiala jail. However, his sentence in the Toshakhana case was suspended by the Islamabad High Court on August 29. These developments paint a troubling picture of the involvement of former Prime Minister Imran Khan and other PTI leaders in orchestrating the anti-government violence that took place on May 9.

The chargesheets and evidence presented by the joint investigation team raise serious concerns about a planned conspiracy against the state and deliberate incitement of public unrest. The arrests and trial of numerous PTI party members further demonstrate the authorities' determination to address the violence and hold those responsible accountable. As the legal proceedings continue, it remains to be seen how this situation will impact Imran Khan's political future and the overall stability of Pakistan.
