Former Pakistan prime minister Imran Khan woke up on Sunday as an inmate in the high-security Attock prison in Attock city, despite an order issued by an Islamabad trial court stating that he should have been placed in Adiala jail in Rawalpindi.

Khan, 70, was arrested from his home in Lahore on Saturday after being convicted and sentenced to three years in prison in the Toshakhana corruption case. According to the court order, the Islamabad police chief was supposed to arrest Khan, but it was the Punjab police who took him into custody.

The court also ordered the Adiala jail superintendent to receive Khan, but he was ultimately taken to Attock jail instead. This discrepancy has raised questions about the swift arrest of Khan and the handling of the case.

The court ruling has dealt a blow to Khan's political future, as it comes as Pakistan is preparing for general elections later this year. The case against Khan alleges that he concealed details of gifts he received from the Toshakhana, a repository for presents given to government officials by foreign officials, and allegedly profited from the sale of these gifts during his time as prime minister.

This is not the first time that Khan has faced arrest. In May, he was arrested in Islamabad in connection with the Al-Qadir Trust corruption case, which sparked violent protests by his supporters. Attock prison, where Khan is currently held, is the same facility where former prime minister Nawaz Sharif was incarcerated after his government was overthrown by former president Pervez Musharraf.

Attock is located on the bank of the River Indus, with the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province situated on the opposite bank. Despite the controversy surrounding Khan's arrest and imprisonment, he has been transported to Attock jail under tight security. The question remains as to how this case will impact his political career and Pakistan's upcoming elections.
