Former Olympic boxer Felix Verdejo Sanchez has been found guilty by a Puerto Rican jury of kidnapping and killing his pregnant girlfriend, Keishla Rodriguez.

Verdejo, a lightweight contender who represented Puerto Rico at the 2012 Olympic Games, abducted Rodriguez and threw her off a bridge in San Juan in April 2021. Her body was later found in a lagoon in the city.

The jury charged Verdejo with kidnapping resulting in death, carjacking resulting in death, intentionally killing an unborn child, and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. Court documents revealed that Verdejo had executed a premeditated plan to murder Rodriguez and her unborn child by luring her into his car, injecting her with drugs, and tying her to a cement block before throwing her into the lagoon.

Verdejo's co-defendant, Luis Antonio Cadiz-Martinez, was also involved in the kidnapping. Verdejo, who had denied the charges, remained expressionless as the jury's verdict was read. The sentencing is scheduled for November 3, and Verdejo could face a maximum sentence of life in prison for the four felonies he was charged with.
