An explosion-like sound was heard near Pakistan's atomic energy department in Dera Ghazi Khan on Friday, causing panic among residents. The impact of the blast was reportedly felt up to 50 kilometers away from the site. This incident occurred just days after two suicide bombings took place in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, resulting in the loss of at least 65 lives. Several media reports initially claimed that a huge blast occurred near Pakistan's atomic commission office in Dera Ghazi Khan, where the country's largest nuclear center is located.

However, Commissioner Nasir Mahmood Bashir clarified that the "blasts" were actually caused by a Pakistani Air Force fighter jet breaking the sound barrier. The commissioner's spokesperson further clarified that there were no reports of terrorism, vandalism, accidents, or damage. Videos circulating on social media showed people evacuating the area as rescue teams and police personnel arrived at the site. Rumors of a possible nuclear blast or a missile test gone wrong sparked concerns among the public. However, an initial investigation by the concerned departments cleared any doubts and confirmed that there was no terrorism or damage involved.

Meanwhile, the recent suicide bombings in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have already claimed the lives of 65 people. One blast occurred near a mosque, where a suicide bomber targeted a police vehicle during a procession to celebrate the Prophet Mohammad's birthday. The other explosion took place within a mosque in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

While India Today could not independently verify the reports of the explosion in Dera Ghazi Khan, the incident highlights the sensitivity and concerns surrounding Pakistan's nuclear facilities. The authorities should address these concerns by enhancing security measures and ensuring transparency in dealing with such incidents. Keeping the public well-informed and conducting thorough investigations is crucial to maintaining peace and stability in the region.
