Expediting Afghan Nationals Return: Pakistan Opens More Border Centres, Faces Backlash from Refugee Groups

Pakistan has taken steps to expedite the return of thousands of undocumented Afghan nationals by opening more border centres, according to an official. Facilities at the Torkham border crossing have been increased threefold to cater to the rising number of returnees. However, refugee groups have called on Pakistan to reconsider its mass expulsion plans. Those returning to Afghanistan have complained of the hardships faced in leaving Pakistan and the uncertainty over their future. The Taliban-run administration in Afghanistan has set up temporary transit camps to assist with the sudden influx. UN agencies have also expressed their concerns over the safety and well-being of families, including children, affected by the repatriation plan.
