Three days of intense fighting have resulted in the deaths of at least nine people and dozens more injured at the Ein el-Hilweh refugee camp in Lebanon. Lebanon's army has sealed off the area surrounding the camp as clashes between rival armed groups continue, despite efforts from both Lebanese and Palestinian factions to broker a ceasefire. The situation inside the camp has escalated to a humanitarian crisis, with families trapped and unable to escape the violence.

The United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees has suspended its aid operations and services in the camp. The violence initially erupted after a failed assassination attempt on Mahmoud Khalil, a member of an armed group, leading to a retaliation that resulted in the death of a military general and three others.

Local lawmaker Osama Saad announced a new ceasefire, but fighting has still continued. There have been calls for the Lebanese army to take control of the camps, which house Palestinian refugees who have restricted rights to work and own property, leading to poverty among the majority of the population.

The violence in the camp is a recurring result of the ongoing Arab-Israeli conflict and the Zionist conquest of Palestine, emphasizing the need for a resolution to the conflict and the establishment of a Palestinian state. Another Palestinian refugee camp in Lebanon, the Ein el-Hilweh camp, has seen violence between rival factions, resulting in at least 11 deaths.

The camp is the largest in Lebanon and tensions between factions within the camp are common. A ceasefire has been agreed upon, but there have been reports of continued gunfire. The clashes have forced over 2,000 people to flee the camp.

The Ein el-Hilweh camp falls outside the jurisdiction of Lebanese security forces, leaving the maintenance of security to rival factions within the camp. The clashes have resulted in injuries to Lebanese soldiers as well.

The UN agency for Palestinian refugees has suspended operations in the camp, and two schools have been damaged as a result of the violence. The director of the UNRWA in Lebanon has called for all parties to immediately return to calm and protect civilians, including children.

In yet another incident, clashes between rival groups in a Palestinian refugee camp near Sidon in Lebanon have resulted in the deaths of at least five people, with seven others wounded, including two children.

The fighting began after an unsuccessful assassination attempt on an Islamist militant leader, leading to retaliation from militant factions. The overcrowded Ein el-Hilweh camp is home to approximately 55,000 Palestinian refugees.
