Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan's nomination papers for the upcoming February 8 general elections have been rejected by the Election Commission of Pakistan. The rejection was due to Khan's conviction for “moral turpitude in a corruption case and other reasons. The Returning Officer of the National Assembly seat in Lahore (NA-122) cited the judgment of an additional session judge that confirmed Khan’s conviction.

Despite the Islamabad High Court suspending Khan’s sentence, his five-year disqualification in the Toshakhana case still stands. The PTI party condemned the rejection of Khan's nomination papers and several other party stalwarts. Imran Khan and his senior party colleague have been facing multiple cases and arrests and are currently incarcerated at the high-security Adiala jail in Rawalpindi.
