The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against former prime minister Imran Khan in a case related to contempt of the top electoral body. The ECP has instructed the Islamabad police to arrest Khan and present him before the commission on Tuesday.

The ECP initiated contempt proceedings against Khan, along with former PTI leaders Asad Umar and Fawad Chaudhry, last year for allegedly using disrespectful language against the chief election commissioner and the electoral watchdog.

In the previous hearing on July 11, the ECP issued a non-bailable arrest warrant for Khan and Chaudhry. The ECP has rescheduled the hearing for July 25, with orders for all three leaders to appear. Despite being served notices and bailable warrants, Khan has continuously failed to appear before the ECP.

The Supreme Court allowed the ECP to proceed with the proceedings against the three leaders in January. Khan has been facing multiple cases in various courts since his removal from power in April 2018.

Chaudhry, who was once a strong supporter of Khan, recently tendered an apology to the ECP in the contempt case filed against him. However, the Supreme Court has barred the authorities from arresting Khan until August 9 in a separate murder case.
