A 34-year-old doctor named Simon Abraham has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for sexually assaulting a female patient at Eastbourne District General Hospital in the UK. Abraham, who claimed to have received specialized massage training in India for two years, contacted the woman in October 2020 after she had been treated for severe headaches.

He convinced her to let him visit her, promising that his massage expertise could help her condition. However, during the massage, Abraham sexually assaulted her and only left when another visitor arrived. He continued to contact her by phone after the incident. The woman reported the assault to both the hospital and the police.

Abraham was found guilty of sexual assault after a four-day trial and was sentenced to 18 months in prison, with nine months to be served in custody and the remaining under license parole conditions. He will also be registered as a sex offender for 10 years and is subject to a five-year restraining order to protect the victim.

Detective Constable Jo Gledhill from the Sussex Police highlighted Abraham's dishonesty in accessing the victim's patient details without authorization and visiting her under false pretenses.

The police urge victims of sexual assault to come forward and assure them that specially trained officers will handle their cases seriously. This case emphasizes the importance of patient safety and trust within the medical profession and sends a message that sexual assault will not be tolerated.
