Envoys from India, Russia, China, Bhutan, Philippines, Singapore, and Sri Lanka have expressed their support for Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and congratulated her on her re-election and the victory of her Awami League party for a fourth straight term. The Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka, Pranay Kumar Verma, along with other ambassadors, called on Prime Minister Hasina at her Ganobhaban residence. They pledged their continued support for Bangladesh and extended their country's greetings to the prime minister. In response, Hasina expressed her gratitude and sought cooperation from the envoys in the development and prosperity of Bangladesh. She emphasized the strong bilateral relationship between India and Bangladesh, referring to India as a "great friend" and highlighting the support provided during Bangladesh's independence in 1971 and during her period of exile in 1975. In related news, a delegation of Aga Khan Diplomatic Representatives also met with Hasina, and additional foreign envoys were scheduled to meet with her following the landslide victory of the Awami League in the recent election. The BNP, the main opposition, and its allies had boycotted the election. With her victory, Hasina secured her record fourth consecutive term and fifth overall term as prime minister, positioning her to become the longest-serving prime minister in Bangladesh since independence.
