On Saturday, a devastating Russian missile attack struck a postal distribution center in Kharkiv, Ukraine's northeastern city. The attack resulted in the death of six individuals and left 14 others injured. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the strike, emphasizing that it hit an ordinary civilian site. President Zelenskyy shared a video that showcased the extensive damage caused by the attack, including blown-out windows and severe structural damage to the building.

The postal distribution center belonged to Ukraine's Nova Poshta postal service, as indicated by its logo in the background. Regional Governor Oleh Syniehubov provided an update on the condition of the victims, revealing that seven of the injured individuals were in a serious condition and fighting for their lives. The injured individuals ranged from 17 to 42 years old and suffered from shrapnel injuries and blast wounds.

The governor added that the postal workers were unable to seek shelter as the building was hit just seconds after a warning siren sounded. According to the regional prosecutor's office, the attack was carried out by two S-300 missiles fired by Russian forces in Russia's Belgorod region, located north of Kharkiv. Kharkiv, Ukraine's second-largest city, is positioned just 30km (19 miles) from the Russian border. The city had previously experienced heavy bombing by Russia in February 2022 during the early days of the full-scale invasion.

The attack on the postal distribution center adds to the growing number of casualties and destruction caused by the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. It demonstrates the continued aggression and disregard for civilian lives displayed by Russian forces. The international community must urgently address the escalating situation in Ukraine and work towards a peaceful resolution. The lives of innocent civilians are at stake, and their safety and well-being should be the top priority.
