Czech Court Approves Extradition of Indian National Accused in Murder-for-Hire Plot Involving Khalistani Activist The High Court in Prague has ruled that Nikhil Gupta, an Indian national accused by the United States of involvement in a plot to kill a Sikh separatist on American soil, can be extradited to the US to face charges. Gupta was arrested by Czech authorities in June last year after travelling from India to Prague. The US has accused Gupta of working with an Indian government official on a plan to kill a New York City resident who advocated for a sovereign Sikh state in northern India.

The target was identified as Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, the general counsel for Sikhs for Justice, a banned Khalistani group in India. Gupta has consistently maintained that his arrest was based on a case of mistaken identity, describing the case as political. He has appealed the Czech court's decision, and if the justice minister has doubts about the decision, he has three months to ask the Supreme Court to review it.

The final decision on Gupta's extradition will be in the hands of the justice minister. Gupta's lawyer has stated that they will appeal to the minister to prevent extradition and take the case to the Constitutional Court if necessary. With the potential for further legal challenges and appeals, as well as uncertainties around the timeframe for the minister’s decision, the case is likely to continue to evolve in the coming months.
