Chinese President Xi Jinping has expressed his serious consideration of visiting South Korea, according to an official familiar with the matter. During his meeting with South Korean Prime Minister Han Duck-soo on the sidelines of the Asian Games, President Xi expressed his willingness to visit Seoul, stating that he sees it as his turn to visit the country. This potential visit comes as China's President Xi Jinping recognizes the need for cooperation and support in promoting peace and security on the Korean Peninsula.

South Korean Prime Minister Han Duck-soo pledged for inter-Korean reconciliation and urged President Xi to take a constructive role in mediating between issues concerning the two Koreas. Furthermore, this visit holds significance for South Korea's President Yoon Suk Yeol's Audacious Initiative policy, which aims to offer economic assistance to North Korea in exchange for denuclearization. President Yoon extended a formal invitation to President Xi during the Group of 20 summit held in Indonesia's Bali.

Seoul sees President Xi's visit as an opportunity to improve North Korea's economy and the livelihoods of its people. President Xi also appreciated South Korea's efforts to resume cooperation with North Korea and showed support for the idea of an annual three-way summit between South Korea, China, and Japan. The last trilateral summit took place in 2019, and President Xi welcomed the prospect of holding another summit when the time is suitable.

The commitment to cooperation between China and South Korea comes ahead of scheduled trilateral talks in Seoul involving senior officials from China, Japan, and South Korea. These talks aim to pave the way for the first summit between the three countries in four years. Overall, President Xi Jinping's potential visit to South Korea holds significant implications for fostering peace, promoting economic assistance to North Korea, and strengthening cooperation between South Korea, China, and Japan.
