China has recently released a powerful documentary titled "Chasing Dreams," which sheds light on the army's ongoing preparation to potentially attack Taiwan. The eight-part docuseries, aired by state broadcaster CCTV, marks the People's Liberation Army's 96th anniversary and aims to showcase military drills and testimonials by soldiers who express their unwavering dedication and commitment to their nation.

Throughout the documentary, viewers are exposed to the soldiers' intense training exercises and their fervent belief in sacrificing their lives if need be, in order to protect China's interests and regain control over the self-ruled island of Taiwan.

These soldiers, representing various divisions of the PLA, passionately pledge their unwavering loyalty and commitment, stating that they are prepared to utilize their bodies, aircraft, and weaponry to ensure victory in any potential conflict.

The release of "Chasing Dreams" comes at a time when China has been steadily increasing its rhetoric against Taiwan, intensifying its claims that the island belongs to China and should be acquired through force if necessary.

By showcasing the military drills and soldier testimonials in this docuseries, China aims to instill national pride and bolster Chinese nationalism, while also projecting strength and confidence in its military capabilities, particularly with regard to Taiwan and the implicit ties it has with the United States.

It is important to note that the United States, while not officially recognizing Taiwan as a sovereign nation, has made commitments to assist the island in defending itself against any aggression.

In fact, just last month, the White House announced a substantial military aid package of $345 million for Taiwan, drawing criticism from Beijing. Some of the most dramatic moments in "Chasing Dreams" are when soldiers express their willingness to make the ultimate sacrifice for their country.

Zuo Feng, a frogman with the PLA Navy's minesweeper unit, states that if conditions proved too difficult to safely remove naval mines in combat, he would use his own body to clear a safe pathway for landing forces.

Similarly, Li Peng, a pilot from Wang Hai Squadron under the PLA Air Force, asserts that his fighter jet would be the last missile hurled toward the enemy if all his ammunition were expended. The documentary also showcases the majestic aircraft carrier Shandong, one of China's three carriers, sailing in formation with several other warships.

This serves as a reminder to Taiwan that the PLA has repeatedly dispatched its vessels to the Taiwan Strait as a military threat. PLA jets have also crossed the strait's median line, an informal demarcation zone, more frequently in recent years, particularly in response to Taiwan's exchanges with the United States, which have often irked Beijing.

"Chasing Dreams" underscores China's determination and resolve to achieve its territorial ambitions, reasserting dominance over Taiwan. By releasing this documentary, China seeks to rally its people, inspire its soldiers, and showcase its growing military might to the world. As tensions continue to escalate in the Taiwan Strait, the international community will undoubtedly closely monitor China's actions and Taiwan's defense capabilities.
