China's cyberspace watchdog proposes strict rules for children's smartphone usage to combat digital addiction, limiting screen time to 2 hours per day and different time limits for different age groups.
China's cyberspace watchdog has proposed strict regulations for children's smartphone usage in an effort to curb digital addiction. The draft guidelines, open for public comments until September 2, suggest limiting screen time to two hours per day for those under 18.
The proposed rules also recommend different time limits for different age groups, with children under 8 restricted to just 40 minutes a day. Additionally, there would be a "minor mode" for those under 18, allowing parents to manage their children's device usage. Tech companies would be required to comply with the regulations and provide regular data to authorities. China has previously introduced similar restrictions for online gaming.
