China has urged both Pakistan and Iran to exercise restraint and avoid escalating tensions in the region, following Iran's missile and drone attacks on terrorist bases in Pakistan's Balochistan province. The targeted bases belonged to the Baloch militant group Jaish al-Adl (JAI), according to Iranian officials. The group, founded in 2012, operates primarily in Pakistan and is considered the most active and influential Sunni militant group in Sistan-Baluchestan, as per the US Director of National Intelligence. In response to the attacks, Pakistan has recalled its ambassador from Iran and suspended all ongoing and planned high-level visits between the two countries.

Additionally, the Iranian ambassador to Pakistan visiting the country will not be allowed to return. China's foreign ministry spokesperson, Mao Ning, emphasized the importance of upholding international norms and respecting the sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of all countries. "Iran and Pakistan are close neighbors and major Islamic countries. We call on the two sides to exercise restraint, avoid actions that escalate the tension and jointly keep the region peaceful and stable," she said. As tensions simmer between the two neighboring countries, China's call for de-escalation and peace underscores the significance of maintaining stability in the region.
