China Extends Full Support to India's G20 Summit Amidst Rising Tensions, Premier Li to Attend
China has expressed support for India hosting the G20 Summit, with Premier Li Qiang attending instead of President Xi Jinping, indicating stable relations between the two nations despite recent tensions.
China has announced its support for India's hosting of the G20 Summit and its willingness to work with all stakeholders to ensure the success of the global event in New Delhi this week. Premier Li Qiang will represent China at the summit, replacing President Xi Jinping. The decision to send the Premier instead of the President does not reflect tensions between the two countries, according to China's foreign ministry spokesperson.
China-India relations have remained stable overall, with ongoing dialogue and communication at various levels. The improvement of bilateral relations serves the common interests of both countries, and China stands ready to collaborate with India. The G20 summit will be attended by world leaders, including US President Joe Biden and French President Emmanuel Macron. The summit aims to foster international economic cooperation, with the G20 member countries representing a significant portion of global GDP, trade, and population.
However, the China-India relationship has been strained since the violent clashes in eastern Ladakh's Galwan Valley in 2020. The two countries have been engaged in a standoff at friction points in eastern Ladakh, and efforts to resolve the situation have thus far been unsuccessful. India has emphasized that peace along the Line of Actual Control is crucial for normalizing overall ties. Premier Li will also represent China at the ASEAN Summit in Indonesia before traveling to India for the G20 Summit.
