In a landmark case, a Canadian woman named Pascale Ferrier has been sentenced to nearly 22 years in prison for mailing letters containing the poisonous substance ricin to then-President Donald Trump at the White House. The letters, which also targeted law enforcement officials in Texas, were intercepted before reaching their intended recipients.

Ferrier pleaded guilty to violating biological weapons prohibitions and has been described as an "inordinately intelligent French immigrant" with no prior criminal record. However, prosecutors revealed that she had made the ricin at home in Quebec and had expressed her intentions to find better recipes for other poisons.
