In a significant move to promote trade between Bangladesh and India, the Bangladeshi government has given its approval to four transhipment routes for Indian traders in Tripura and other northeastern states.

According to reports, the Industries and Commerce Minister of Tripura, Santana Chakma, revealed the four protocol routes, which are Chattogram Port-Akhaura-Agartala, Mongla Port-Akhaura-Agartala, Chattogram-Bibirbazar-Srimantapur, and Mongla Port-Bibirbazar-Srimantapur.

The agreement signed between India and Bangladesh allows Indian traders to utilize the ports of Chattogram and Mongla in Bangladesh for the transportation of goods. This move is expected to ease the trade process and boost economic cooperation between the two neighboring countries.

The Bangladesh government has already notified these four routes for the transhipment of goods by Tripura and other northeastern states. In a recent press conference, Minister Santana Chakma highlighted the significance of this development and stated that it will help facilitate trade between India and Bangladesh.

Additionally, he mentioned that Tripura has plans to establish nine 'border haats' for bilateral trade at the local level. This decision by the Bangladeshi government comes after a trilateral conference involving Bangladesh, India, and Japan was held in Tripura earlier this year.

The conference, organized by the Northeastern Indian research center Asian Influence, aimed at exploring opportunities for cooperation and enhancing trade between the participating countries. The outcomes of a survey conducted prior to the conference emphasized the need for Bangladesh and India to collaborate and promote trade facilitation.

The survey results indicated the potential benefits of such cooperation, further strengthening the decision to allow Indian traders to utilize the ports of Chattogram and Mongla. This announcement is a significant step towards enhancing trade relations between Bangladesh and India.

With the approval of these transhipment routes, merchants in Tripura and other northeastern Indian states can now look forward to smoother and more efficient transportation of their goods. This development is expected to have a positive impact on the economies of both nations, fostering increased trade and economic growth in the region.
