Bangladesh's main opposition party, the BNP, is demanding the cancellation of the recent general election and the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, citing concerns over the accuracy of the voter turnout. The BNP has announced a two-day mass contact programme to rally public support for their demands and is calling for a fresh election under a non-party polls-time government. The BNP's demands come in the wake of Hasina's Awami League party winning 223 seats in the 300-seat Parliament, with an election turnout of 41.8 per cent.

The BNP, which boycotted the elections and observed a strike, asserts that the election was not free and fair and accuses the government of vote robbery and rigging. The BNP's standing committee member, Nazrul Islam Khan, emphasized the need for a government elected by the people and accountable to them, as well as restoration of people's ownership of the state and an end to enforced disappearance and killing.

BNP leader Abdul Moyeen Khan praised the people for rejecting the election and echoed the sentiment that no election under the current government would be fair and credible. The BNP's demands for the cancellation of the current election, resignation of the prime minister, and the formation of a non-party neutral government reflect the party's commitment to democracy and fair electoral practices in Bangladesh.
