US Secretary of State Antony Blinken expressed his inability to confirm reports suggesting that Iran has slowed down its accumulation of near-weapons-grade enriched uranium. However, he emphasized that any steps taken by Iran to de-escalate its nuclear threat would be welcomed.

Blinken also addressed the issue of Iran moving US detainees into house arrest, clarifying that it was not related to any other aspect of US policy towards Iran. He stated that the US approach towards Iran is based on a strategy of deterrence, pressure, and diplomacy.

Referring to the US withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal in 2018, Blinken highlighted the importance of Iran taking steps to deescalate the growing nuclear threat it poses. These comments came in response to recent reports that Iran may release five detained US citizens and unfreeze $6 billion in Iranian funds in South Korea.

The Wall Street Journal also reported that Iran has slowed the pace of accumulating enriched uranium and diluted parts of its stockpile, potentially easing tensions and reviving broader talks on Iran's nuclear program. The 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) aimed to restrict Iran's nuclear program and provide sanctions relief in return.
