The 116th birth anniversary of Bhagat Singh, a pre-partition era revolutionary leader, was celebrated on September 28 by the Bhagat Singh Memorial Foundation, a non-profit organization based in Lahore. The foundation called for Pakistan's highest gallantry award to be bestowed upon Singh, who was hanged alongside his comrades Raj Guru and Sukh Dev by the British in 1931.

The celebration took place at the Lahore High Court, where a cake-cutting event was held on the court's lawn. During the ceremony, Advocate Imtiaz Rashid Qureshi, the head of Bhagat Singh Memorial Foundation Pakistan, paid heartfelt tributes to the independence hero, highlighting his courage, sacrifice, and idealism.

The foundation demanded an official apology from King Charles III of Britain for the extrajudicial killing of the three freedom fighters, urging compensation for their families. Additionally, the foundation urged the Pakistani government to rename Lahore's Shadman Chowk after Bhagat Singh, as it was there that Singh and his comrades were executed.

The foundation also stressed the importance of incorporating the heroic acts of Bhagat Singh, Raj Guru, and Sukh Dev into the school syllabus, ensuring that their bravery and sacrifice are acknowledged and celebrated by future generations. Bhagat Singh, who was executed by the British at the age of 23, remains a popular icon of the freedom movement due to his unwavering courage and spirit of sacrifice.
