Attempted Coup and Civil War Targeting Army Chief: Pakistan's Caretaker PM Reveals Shocking Details Amidst May 9 Violence
Pakistan's caretaker Prime Minister describes the May 9 violence as an attempted coup and civil war, denying revenge as a motive. He also discusses the deteriorated relations between India and Pakistan.
Pakistan's caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar ul Haq Kakar has referred to the May 9 violence, carried out by supporters of former premier Imran Khan, as an attempted coup and civil war targeting Army chief Gen Asim Munir and his team, according to a media report. Kakar, however, denied that revenge was a motive behind taking legal action against the perpetrators of the violence. Dozens of military installations and government buildings, including the Army headquarters in Rawalpindi, were attacked during the violence following Khan's arrest by paramilitary Rangers.
The interim premier emphasized that no political party has the right to resort to violence and destruction. Hundreds of Khan's supporters have been arrested in connection with the May 9 violence. Khan himself is facing multiple cases related to attacks on military installations and is currently imprisoned. The government and military claim to have irrefutable evidence of his party's involvement in the attacks.
Discussing the relations between India and Pakistan, Kakar said that the final decision on bilateral trade has to be made by Indian politicians. The relations between the two nations have worsened in recent years, particularly after a terror attack on the Pathankot Air Force base in 2016 and India's withdrawal of special powers from Jammu and Kashmir in 2019.
