The American Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (AGPC) has strongly condemned the recent act of vandalism at the Shri Swaminarayan Mandir Hindu Temple in Newark, California, and has expressed solidarity with the Hindu community. The temple was defaced with anti-India graffiti, including the word ‘Khalistan’ spray-painted on a signpost outside the temple, along with other objectionable graffiti. The AGPC has labeled the incident as a possible hate crime and has emphasized the importance of upholding the universal right to practice religion freely and without fear, in line with the core principles of Sikh tenets and American values.

The AGPC also highlighted similar incidents reported in other parts of the world, such as Australia and Canada, and emphasized the complexities and sensitivities involved in addressing and interpreting such incidents. The committee encouraged anyone with information on these incidents to contact the FBI and reiterated its commitment to working alongside law enforcement, community leaders, and diverse faith groups to foster an environment of liberty, justice, and unity. The AGPC's strong stance reflects its dedication to upholding cherished American values of freedom and respect for all, in the face of such acts of vandalism.
