The Islamabad police have detained 61 foreigners residing illegally in the city. This crackdown on illegal residency emphasizes the government's commitment to national security and proper documentation.
In a recent operation conducted by the Islamabad police, a total of 61 foreigners have been detained for residing illegally in the capital, according to Dawn. The individuals were apprehended during combing and searching operations aimed at identifying and addressing illegal residents in the city. According to the report, 39 foreigners were arrested during one operation carried out by Sabzi Mandi police near the police station.
These individuals were discovered to be without any legal documents, such as passports and visas, proving their permission to stay in Pakistan. Additionally, the Bhara Kahu police conducted two combing operations in Athal Chowk and Kiani Road, leading to the detention of 15 other foreigners. Meanwhile, the Phulgran police arrested seven foreigners from Seri Chowk. As a result of these efforts, a total of 65 cases have been registered against the foreigners residing illegally in Islamabad, and these cases are currently under trial in courts.
Furthermore, Dawn reports that the police have begun compiling data on these individuals within the Rawalpindi district. This action is in line with the caretaker government's plan to repatriate more than 1.1 million foreigners living illegally in Pakistan. To ensure a comprehensive approach, station house officers (SHOs) have been instructed to collect details on illegal residents in their respective areas and submit a report to the city police officer within five days. It is notable that the police have been directed not to harass any foreign national during this process.
The issue of illegal foreign nationals residing in Pakistan extends beyond Islamabad, as many individuals have been discovered to be living illegally in various parts of Rawalpindi, including Pirwadhai, Sadiqabad, and Naseerabad. This recent crackdown on illegal foreigners residing in Pakistan highlights the government's commitment to ensuring national security and proper documentation for all residents. With the cooperation of law enforcement agencies and through coordinated efforts, the authorities aim to address the issue of illegal residency and maintain the integrity of the country's immigration system.
