A 13-year-old boy in Ohio who was accused of planning a mass shooting at a synagogue has been sentenced to a year of probation and ordered to write a book report about a World War II rescue mission, according to court records. The boy, who pleaded guilty to inducing panic and disorderly conduct, allegedly created a detailed plan on an online chat platform to carry out the attack at Temple Israel in Canton, Ohio. The judge also ordered that the boy undergo counseling and have no unsupervised use of the internet.

In addition to his probation, the boy was also ordered to write a report about Swiss diplomat Carl Lutz, who saved over 60,000 Jews during the Holocaust. His sentencing comes at a time of increased antisemitic attacks in the U.S. and has caused significant public alarm. This unique sentence aims to educate the teen about the impact of his actions and the consequences of hate.
