Thousands of people took part in the annual Banni Utsavam, a festival celebrated in the Indian village of Devaragattu, in Andhra Pradesh's Kurnool district, on Saturday.

The festival involved a ritual mock stick-fight where participants try and take possession of two deities, which results every year in a number of injuries. This year over 40 people were injured as part of the stick-fights.

This is yet another incident after Amritsar train tragedy in past one week where people have been injured while observing a religious ceremony. Should people be more careful? Should government take steps to avoid such incidents? If yes, then what are those steps?
