Family left baffled as AMU research scholar joins militant group Hizbul Mujahideen

Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) expels Manan Basheer Wani, the research scholar hailing from North Kashmir's Kupwara district, after reports of Wahi joining Hizbul Mujahideen (HM), a militant outfit spread across the nation.
Wani who is 26-years-old, is currently missing.
The Uttar Pradesh police authorities have sealed the hostel room of Wani and informed its counterparts in Kashmir about the reports and information. The family of the AMU scholar, also lodged a missing report with local police and said that they are in tension as they know nothing about Wahi joining the militant group.
Manan was a researcher in the Department of Geology and was last present in his department on January 2, 2018. He hails from Kupwara district in Jammu & Kashmir and had left for his hometown shortly before the commencement of the winter vacations at AMU, on January 6.
The AMU scholar came under the suspicion after his photographs holding AK-47 appeared on various social media sites.
The Kashmir police is saying that it is too early to confirm if Wani had joined the militant group and his pictures could be edited by a computer software.
Meanwhile, with Republic Day approaching, an alert has been issued and security agencies are keeping eye in and around AMU campus and other parts of the country.

In 2017 over 70 Kashmiri youth joined militancy, while total 88 Kashmiri youths joined militancy in 2016. Since 2014, there has been a constant rise in the number of people joining militancy. As many as 66 youths joined militancy in Kashmir in 2015 and 53 in 2014. In 2010, 54 youths joined militancy and in 2011, the number came down to 23. It further dipped to 21 in 2012 and 16 in 2013, according to data compiled by security agencies.
