In a display of unwavering support amidst the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas, newly appointed US Ambassador to Israel Jack Lew was officially received by Israeli President Issac Herzog. The appointment of Ambassador Lew was fast-tracked due to the escalating tensions in the region. During the ceremony at the President's residence, President Herzog emphasized the importance of friendship and expressed gratitude for the support and assistance provided by the United States. He stated, "Never has American friendship been more evident or more valued than it is today. We are grateful for everything that the United States of America has done for us and is doing as we speak. We will never forget it."

President Herzog also highlighted the critical juncture at which Ambassador Lew assumes his post, citing the October 7 massacres perpetrated by Hamas that have had a lasting impact on the country. He emphasized that the conflict goes beyond just Israel and Hamas, stating, "It is about whether the world will accept the violation of our basic values as human beings." Ambassador Lew, speaking after Herzog, acknowledged the challenging times Israel has faced and praised the unbreakable bond between the two nations. He stated, "This past month has tested Israel, and it has also proven that the bond between our nations is unshakable. As two great democracies, we share values that underlie how we make decisions and explain why we remain so close."

Highlighting his commitment to addressing the plight of the hostages held by Hamas, Ambassador Lew stated that securing their release would be a top priority. He assured Israel, saying, "The United States stands with you, we will work together, and our resolve remains strong." Ambassador Lew, appointed by US President Joe Biden on November 2, brings extensive experience to his role. Previously serving as the 76th Secretary of the Treasury, White House Chief of Staff, and Director of the Office of Management and Budget, Lew's credentials speak to his capability in navigating complex challenges. Earlier, President Herzog met with the ambassadors of Thailand, the Philippines, Tanzania, and Nepal. These countries had citizens who were murdered and taken hostage during Hamas's terror invasion of southwestern Israel on October 7.
