Ukrainian Drone Assaults on Moscow Escalate, Threatening City's Safety and Leading to Vnukovo Airport Closure

Moscow faced a series of drone attacks on Sunday, with three Ukrainian drones being downed over the city, according to Russia's defence ministry. One drone was shot down on the outskirts of the city, while the other two were suppressed by electronic warfare and crashed into an office complex.
No injuries were reported. This attack marks the latest in a string of drone assaults that Moscow has blamed on Kyiv. The city's Vnukovo airport was temporarily closed, with flights redirected to other airports.
The attacks on Moscow come as part of a Ukrainian counter-offensive against Russian territories captured since the conflict began in February 2022. The Russian foreign ministry has accused the US and NATO allies of aiding the Ukrainian regime in these attacks.
Additionally, Russia intercepted two missiles over its Rostov region and downed another in Azov, while a missile attack in Sumy resulted in at least one civilian death and five injuries. Moscow has seen an increase in drone strikes in recent months, including a July attack that killed three people and wounded 21 others.
