In a recent development, a senior adviser to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has strongly denied Russia's claim that Kyiv attempted to attack the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) using a drone.

This assertion was made by Russian security forces without providing any specific source, as reported by the Russian state news agency RIA. The ZNPP, which is Europe's largest nuclear plant, is currently offline and under Russian control in Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia region - an area situated near the front line of Russia's conflict with Kyiv.

Russian security forces alleged that Ukraine had targeted a spent nuclear fuel storage facility at the Zaporizhzhia plant with a strike drone, adding that the drone had been forced down. RIA even distributed a photograph of the purported downed quadcopter drone, stating that their conclusion was based on the analysis of its flight path.

However, the senior adviser, Mykhailo Podolyak, strongly refuted these claims and emphasized that Ukraine did not, and will not, carry out any kind of drone attack on the ZNPP.

Podolyak clarified that there were no plans for such an attack, even in theory, as it goes against Ukraine's intentions. To add more confusion to the situation, the Russian state news agency TASS cited Renat Karchaa, adviser to the general director of the Russian nuclear utility Rosenergoatom, who stated that the drone's intended target was actually located outside the nuclear compound.

Karchaa noted that, according to their information, the drone was targeting other important objects situated outside the Zaporizhzhia NPP. This latest development raises questions about the reliability of the initial Russian claim and emphasizes the need for further investigation and verification of the facts.

As tensions continue to escalate between Ukraine and Russia, it is crucial to ensure accurate reporting and avoid the dissemination of false information that could potentially exacerbate the already tense situation in the region.
