Ukraine Battles Drones and Missiles: Calls for Western Support as Russia Tightens Grip
Russia has escalated attacks on Ukraine, downing drones and missiles, leading Ukraine to request more weapons from the West. The fighting intensifies around Avdiivka, while power outages and extreme weather add to the country's struggles. Ukraine seeks additional support as it marks the 10th anniversary of its pro-EU revolution.
In a series of escalating attacks, Russia has downed Ukrainian drones over five regions, including Moscow, and two Ukrainian missiles over the Azov Sea. This follows a large-scale drone attack by Russia on Kyiv, prompting Ukraine to call for more weapons from the West to counter Moscow's forces. The fighting has intensified around the industrial hub of Avdiivka, with reports suggesting that the city is almost encircled by Russian forces. Meanwhile, the Kherson region has experienced power outages due to bad weather and Russian attacks. Nearly 400 localities in Ukraine are currently without electricity.
Furthermore, Ukraine is facing extreme weather conditions, with heavy snowfalls expected in several regions. Fearing that global attention has shifted to the Israel-Hamas conflict, Ukraine is urging the West to provide additional support as the winter settles in. These recent attacks come as Ukraine marks 10 years since its pro-EU Maidan revolution, which Russia continues to view as illegitimate. Moscow aims to install a different government in Ukraine and has been involved in the annexation of Crimea and supporting separatists in the east.
