Typhoon Haikui pounded Taiwan with strong winds and heavy rain before weakening into a severe tropical storm as it moved towards southern China. The storm made a second landfall in southwest Kaohsiung before moving out into the Taiwan Strait. While there have been no reported deaths, over 100 people suffered minor injuries due to fallen trees and car accidents.

Coastal Taitung in eastern Taiwan experienced significant damage, with toppled trees and flooding. Approximately 8,000 people were evacuated across the island, and hundreds of flights were canceled. More than 260,000 households temporarily lost power, with 22,000 still without electricity. Schools and businesses remained closed in 14 cities due to torrential rain. Typhoon Haikui is now heading towards southern China. Hong Kong issued its lowest alert for the storm, as it was about 540 kilometers east of the city. This comes after Typhoon Saola recently caused significant damage in Fujian and Guangdong, resulting in hundreds of thousands of evacuations.
