Social media giant Twitter has announced that users will soon need to be verified to use TweetDeck, the company's powerful social media management tool. The new requirement will take effect in 30 days, with the company having recently launched an improved version of the popular platform with new features.

It remains unclear whether the new version will be free or require payment, but the move could bring a revenue boost to Twitter, which has seen its advertising revenue dip since billionaire Elon Musk's ownership.

The move comes at a time when TweetDeck users are facing several issues, including notifications and entire columns failing to load, which Musk had initially attempted to address by limiting tweet reading to 6,000 posts per day for verified users, and 600 daily posts for unverified users.

However, he later increased these limits to 10,000 and 1,000, respectively, after a fierce backlash from users. In India, individuals must pay ₹650 per month to verify their account, while organisations pay at least ₹82,300 per month (excluding taxes).

The introduction of a verification requirement for TweetDeck could be seen as a move to monetise the platform, and may further fuel the debate surrounding Twitter's controversial policies.
