Trump's $475M Defamation Lawsuit Against CNN Dismissed as Judge Rules Network's Statements as Opinion, Not False Information

 A federal judge has dismissed Donald Trump's $475 million defamation lawsuit against CNN, ruling that the network's statements were opinion and not actionable as defamation.

The former president filed the suit in October, alleging that CNN's use of the phrase "the Big Lie" associated him with Adolf Hitler and spread false information about the 2020 election. However, Judge Raag Singhal, who was appointed by Trump, stated that CNN's statements were not factually false and therefore did not meet the legal requirements for defamation.

While the judge called the statements by CNN repugnant, he ruled that they were protected as opinion under Florida law. This dismissal of the lawsuit marks another legal setback for Trump, who is also facing charges related to hush money payments and is bracing for indictment in other investigations into his efforts to overturn the 2020 election.
