In a tragic incident in the North Sea, a cargo ship carrying seven crew members sank after colliding with another vessel. German authorities have confirmed that one person has lost their life, while four others remain missing. Two crew members have been rescued, but the search operation is still ongoing. The collision occurred approximately 22km southwest of the island of Helgoland and 31km northeast of the island of Langeoog.

The Verity, sailing under a British flag, was en route from Bremen, Germany, to the British town of Immingham. On the other hand, the Polesie, under a Bahamas flag, was traveling from Hamburg, Germany, to La Coruna, Spain. Fortunately, the 22 crew members aboard the Polesie were uninjured and in good physical condition. The ship's owner, Polsteam, confirmed their well-being. After the collision, the Polesie immediately participated in the search and rescue operation. Multiple ships, including a P&O cruise ship named IONA, are assisting in the search efforts.
The search mission is facing challenging weather conditions, with strong winds and waves reaching up to 3 meters high. However, emergency services are tirelessly working to locate and rescue the missing crew members. German Transport Minister, Volker Wissing, expressed his sympathies for the crew members, their families, and the rescue teams involved in the operation. As the rescue operation continues, authorities are also investigating the cause of the collision. The cargoes of both ships involved in the collision remain unknown.
The maritime emergency authority warns that powerful winds and rough seas have been reported in the area, adding to the complexity of the search efforts.
