Georgia Authorities Investigate Threats Against Grand Jury Members Indicting Trump and Allies Georgia authorities are currently investigating threats made against members of the grand jury that indicted former United States President Donald Trump and 18 of his allies.

Reports have revealed that personal data, including images and addresses, of the 23 jurors and three alternates were published on various fringe websites with ties to right-wing conspiracy theories. The Fulton County Sheriff's office, led by Sheriff Pat Labat, has stated that investigators are diligently working to trace the origin of the threats and ensure the safety of the grand jury members.

Local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies are assisting in the coordinated effort. The 41-count indictment was returned by the Fulton County grand jury on Monday, charging Trump and his associates with illegal conspiracy to overturn the 2020 election results in Georgia.

Although grand jury proceedings are typically kept secret, the unredacted names of the jurors were included in the public record indictment, as is the standard practice in Georgia. This allows criminal defendants the opportunity to challenge the composition of the grand jury.

The American Bar Association (ABA) also condemned the disclosure of private and personal data of the grand jury members, calling it against the law to harass, stalk, and threaten them. The ABA emphasized the importance of juror participation in the democratic process and expressed concern that their lives were being upended due to their civic duty.

These threats against grand jury members follow a trend of rising violent rhetoric directed towards public officials. A woman in Texas was recently arrested for making racially charged death threats against the Black judge presiding over the federal election conspiracy case against Trump.

Additionally, an armed Utah man facing arrest for making violent threats against President Joe Biden and law enforcement officials was killed by FBI agents on August 9. In light of the ongoing criminal cases against Trump and his recent indictment in Georgia, the former president announced the cancellation of a news conference where he claimed to have new evidence of fraud in Georgia's 2020 presidential election.

Trump cited the advice of his lawyers as he prepares to face trial for two criminal cases in Washington, D.C., and Georgia, stemming from his false claims surrounding the election. Lawyers for Trump have requested that his Washington trial be postponed until 2026, counterproposing the justice department's recommendation for a January 2024 trial date.

The special counsel's team is expected to oppose this request, which would significantly delay the trial until after the 2024 presidential election, in which Trump is currently considered an early frontrunner for the Republican nomination.
