SpaceX Smashes Record with 64th Mission: Achieves Flawless Starlink Deployment and Epic Rocket Landing
SpaceX achieves another successful Starlink satellite deployment, breaking its own record for the number of launches in a year. The company continues to lead in space missions and revolutionize global internet connectivity.
SpaceX achieved yet another successful deployment of its Starlink internet satellites, along with a precision landing of the returning rocket on a maritime platform. The launch took place at Vandenberg Space Force Base in California, where a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket released a total of 21 Starlink spacecraft. The liftoff occurred at 2:57 a.m. EDT on September 12th, and the Falcon 9's initial stage executed a planned descent back to Earth, successfully touching down on the SpaceX droneship in the Pacific Ocean 8.5 minutes after liftoff. This launch marked SpaceX's 64th mission of 2023, surpassing its own record of 61 launches from the previous year.

The company has established itself as the leader in global space missions, with a significant focus on expanding the Starlink megaconstellation. Currently, there are over 4,600 operational Starlink satellites in orbit, a number that SpaceX aims to increase substantially in the long term, with a target of reaching 42,000 satellites. Notably, this mission also marked the 11th launch and landing for the first-stage booster, highlighting SpaceX's achievements in reusable rocket technology. The Falcon 9's upper stage is scheduled to deploy the Starlink satellites into their designated orbits approximately 62 minutes after liftoff. With its continued success, SpaceX remains at the forefront of space exploration and satellite deployment, shaping the future of global internet connectivity.
