Russian President Vladimir Putin has officially presented his candidacy for the 2024 presidential election by submitting documents to the Central Election Commission. Putin's supporters formally nominated him to run as an independent candidate, as per Russian election law, involving a group of at least 500 supporters and gathering 300,000 signatures of support from 40 regions. This nomination included top officials from the ruling United Russia party, prominent actors, singers, athletes, and other public figures.

Putin's various election tactics were highlighted, including running as an independent in 2018 and as a nominee of the United Russia party in 2012. With the country's 2024 presidential election set for March 17, Putin is a step closer to a potential fifth term in office. Thanks to constitutional reforms, he is eligible to seek two more six-year terms, possibly remaining in power until 2036.

Additionally, Putin's tight control over Russia's political system, established during his 24 years in power, significantly increases the likelihood of his reelection in March. Most prominent critics who could challenge him are either in jail or living abroad, and independent media have been banned. This further solidifies Putin's position in the upcoming election.
