Prominent Islamist Preacher Anjem Choudary Faces New Terrorism Charges
Notorious radical preacher Anjem Choudary charged with three terrorism-related offenses, including membership of a proscribed organization. He will appear in court along with a Canadian national, Khaled Hussein, both linked to the banned organization al-Muhajiroun. Choudary's previous imprisonment was based on his dangerous nature and lack of remorse.
Notorious radical Islamist preacher Anjem Choudary has been charged with three terrorism-related offenses, according to London police. Choudary, who was imprisoned in 2016 for encouraging support for the ISIS armed group, is facing charges of membership of a proscribed organization, directing an organization, and addressing meetings to encourage support for a proscribed organization.

He will appear in court in London on Monday. Canadian national Khaled Hussein, also charged with membership of a proscribed organization, was arrested on the same day as Choudary. The charges against Choudary and Hussein relate to the banned organization al-Muhajiroun, also known as the Islamic Thinkers Society.
Both men have the right to a fair trial. Choudary, 56, is a former head of al-Muhajiroun and gained notoriety for his praise of the 9/11 attacks and his desire to convert Buckingham Palace into a mosque. British police have previously linked the group to the 2005 London bombings and protests organized by Choudary have been attended by individuals involved in a 2013 attack on a British soldier.
Choudary's imprisonment in 2016 was based on his "calculating and dangerous" nature and his lack of remorse. He was released in 2018 after serving half of his sentence.
