In a recent video posted on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), 2024 Presidential candidate for the Republican Party, Mike Pence, criticized Joe Biden's energy policy for causing a rise in gas prices. However, instead of gaining support, Pence found himself subject to online trolling and ridicule.

In the video, Pence is seen pretending to pump gas into a pickup truck while highlighting the increase in gas and electricity prices since Biden took office. He asserts that Biden's "war on energy" is causing hardship for working families, small businesses, and family farms.

Pence claims to have a plan to address these issues. However, social media users wasted no time in mocking the video. Some pointed out that Pence seemed to be acting poorly and questioned whether he even knew how to pump gas. Critics highlighted that he did not select a fuel grade before removing the gas hose, resulting in the pump continuously beeping throughout the video.

Conservatives on social media also joined in the criticism, with comedian Rob Schneider jokingly questioning how Pence could fix energy independence when he couldn't even choose the correct octane for the gas pump. Political commentator Steven Crowder similarly wondered if Pence had never pumped his own gas before.

Despite the mockery surrounding the video, the Pence campaign announced that it has met the requirements to participate in the first GOP presidential nomination debate, which is set to air on Fox News later this month. Pence had already passed the polling threshold mandated by the Republican National Committee and has now crossed the 40,000-donor threshold.

While the trolling and ridicule surrounding this video may be a setback for Mike Pence, it remains to be seen how this will impact his campaign for the Republican presidential nomination. The energy policy debate continues to be a contentious issue in American politics, and Pence's video may have ignited further discussions on the matter.
