This groundbreaking achievement paves the way for the future of space tourism.
In a groundbreaking achievement, Keisha Schahaff and her daughter Ana Mayers have become the first-ever mother-daughter duo to travel to the edge of space. The duo embarked on their journey on a Virgin Galactic rocket plane, reaching an altitude of approximately 85km (52 miles) and experiencing the incredible sight of Earth's curvature. Keisha, hailing from Antigua, won the opportunity to travel to the UK, where her daughter is currently studying.
Accompanying them on this historic voyage was Jon Goodwin, an 80-year-old former British Olympic canoeist who purchased his ticket for space back in 2005. Goodwin, who has Parkinson's disease, became the first fee-paying customer of Virgin Galactic. The trio had the privilege of witnessing the beauty of our planet from space, including the vastness of the black expanse beyond.
The press conference held after their return was filled with awe and gratitude for the surreal experience they had just encountered. Keisha expressed her amazement, describing the view of Earth as "just amazing," a sentiment shared by her daughter Ana.
Goodwin, reflecting on his journey, hopes his spaceflight will inspire others with Parkinson's and other ailments to pursue their dreams without limitations. This historic achievement marks a significant milestone in the ever-evolving landscape of space tourism.
