Greta Thunberg, the prominent climate activist, is facing criticism for her pro-Palestinian stance on the Israel-Hamas conflict. The local chapter of the climate movement Fridays for Future in Germany has distanced itself from Thunberg's views. During a climate protest in Amsterdam, Thunberg, wearing a Palestinian scarf, called for an immediate ceasefire. However, she was interrupted by a man who disagreed with her stance, stating that he had come for a climate protest, not for her other views. Volker Becker, the president of the German-Israel Society DIG, remarked that Thunberg's statements in Amsterdam marked the end of her as a climate activist, claiming that her new main job is being an "Israel hater."

The Israeli embassy in Germany also expressed disappointment, stating that Thunberg is misusing the climate stage for her own purposes. Fridays for Future International, the global organization, has been showing solidarity with Gaza on social media since October 7, when Hamas fighters attacked Israel's borders, resulting in the deaths of approximately 1,400 civilians. The organization has criticized the Israeli bombing of Gaza and accused Western nations of supporting genocide, as well as spreading misinformation.

Luisa Neubauer, the head of the German chapter of Fridays for Future, expressed regret over Thunberg's one-sided view of the conflict, stating that she is disappointed that Thunberg did not mention the Jewish victims of the October 7 massacre. The climate activist branch in Germany has also distanced itself from the international group due to their pro-Palestinian posts on Instagram. Neubauer emphasized the need to reevaluate partnerships based on common values. While it is clear that global organizations have differing perspectives on the Israel-Palestine conflict, Neubauer warned against justifying anti-Semitism or spreading disinformation. Despite the controversy, Thunberg's impact on the climate movement cannot be denied.
