In a tragic incident in eastern Ukraine, two foreign aid workers were killed on Sunday when Russian shelling hit a van carrying a team of four working with a Ukrainian nongovernmental organization. The volunteers, part of the Road to Relief group, were on their way to assess the needs of civilians on the outskirts of Bakhmut when their van was struck by shells near the town of Chasiv Yar.

The van flipped over and caught fire, trapping the volunteers inside. Anthony Ihnat of Canada died in the attack, while German medical volunteer Ruben Mawick and Swedish volunteer Johan Mathias Thyr were seriously wounded. The whereabouts of the fourth passenger, Emma Igual, a Spanish national and the organization's director, remain unknown.

In another alarming development, dozens of Russian drones targeted Kyiv and the surrounding region, resulting in at least one civilian being wounded. The Ukrainian air force managed to shoot down 26 out of a total of 33 drones.

The head of Kyiv's military administration reported that debris from Iranian-made Shahed drones fell in several districts of the city. Although most of the wreckage fell in open ground, one high-rise apartment was damaged. Additionally, the drone strikes caused damage to infrastructure facilities, civilian buildings, including homes, stores, a hospital, a rehabilitation center, a school, and a kindergarten.

Furthermore, tensions escalated when Russia claimed to have destroyed three US-supplied speedboats carrying Ukrainian soldiers traveling toward Russian-occupied Crimea. Russian air defenses also reportedly shot down eight Ukrainian drones targeting Crimea, and another drone flying over the Bryansk region near the Ukraine border.

However, these claims could not be independently verified. Meanwhile, the Ukrainian army is making small gains near Robotyne in the southern Zaporizhzhia region, where Kyiv has mounted a counteroffensive. Russian-installed authorities recently acknowledged that Russian forces had left the village, allowing Ukrainian forces to make progress.

Ukrainian troops have retaken a further 1.5 square kilometers near Rabotyne, and heavy fighting continues in the area. However, the situation remains volatile, with both sides engaged in a battle for control over Ukrainian territory. The Institute for the Study of War, a Washington-based think tank, reported that Russian forces have captured territory between Robotyne and two nearby villages: Verbove and Novoprokopivka.

The Ukrainian forces have also made advances along the border between the Zaporizhzhia region and the Donetsk province, near Novomaiorske village. These developments show that the conflict in Ukraine is far from over, with both sides continuing to vie for control and fighting intensifying in certain areas.
