In the midst of the intense fighting between Israel and Hamas in northern Gaza, Mahmud al-Masri was faced with a heartbreaking task: burying his three brothers and their five children in a nearby citrus orchard. The 60-year-old farmer had no choice but to dig makeshift graves and say a hurried goodbye to his loved ones who were killed in an Israeli strike.

The cemetery in their town was inaccessible due to the danger of tanks coming into the area. Al-Masri plans to transfer their bodies to the cemetery once the war is over. This tragic situation is not unique to al-Masri. Most c
